POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead GIS Support Analyst is a senior technical role responsible for the stability, performance, and reliability of the enterprise GIS environment. This position focuses on ArcGIS Enterprise platform administration, system troubleshooting, integrations, automation, and technical solution delivery.

This is not a functional GIS analyst role. The Analyst will work primarily with servers, services, APIs, databases, custom components, and enterprise integrations, ensuring the GIS platform operates efficiently and securely. The role requires strong technical depth, hands on problem solving, and the ability to engineer solutions across multiple operational systems.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Platform Engineering & Administration

    • Administer, maintain, and optimize the ArcGIS Enterprise platform (ArcGIS Server, Portal, Data Stores, custom widgets).

    • Perform installation, upgrades, patching, configuration, and performance tuning of GIS infrastructure.

    • Lead and execute GIS platform upgrades, migrations, and modernization projects.

    • Manage system integrations, APIs, web services, and automation scripts.

  • Technical Troubleshooting & Incident Response

    • Diagnose complex technical issues across servers, services, databases, and integrations.

    • Perform root cause analysis for outages, performance degradation, and service failures.

    • Resolve issues involving networking, authentication, load balancing, and service publishing.

    • Support major incidents and drive long term corrective actions.

  • Development, Scripting & Automation

    • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and .NET.

    • Support custom widgets, geoprocessing tools, and automated workflows.

    • Build and maintain integrations with operational systems and COTS applications.

  • Data & System Architecture

    • Support enterprise spatial databases, data models, and data pipelines.

    • Work with ESRI UPDM, linear referencing systems, and pipeline/utility data models.

    • Ensure system scalability, reliability, and maintainability through technical design.

  • Operational Support & Documentation

    • Monitor system health, logs, performance metrics, and service availability.

    • Maintain technical documentation (runbooks, deployment guides, architecture diagrams).

    • Provide technical guidance and training to users and team members.

    • Participate in IT governance processes including change, release, and incident management.

  • Continuous Improvement

    • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance system reliability and performance.

    • Share lessons learned and best practices to prevent recurring issues across systems.

    • Build strong customer relationships by understanding technical needs and delivering effective solutions.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Proven hands on experience with ESRI technologies: ArcGIS Server, Portal, Data Stores, capacity planning tools, and custom widgets.

  • Experience deploying and supporting ArcGIS Enterprise in production environments.

  • Strong programming/scripting skills in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and .NET.

  • Experience with spatial data management and enterprise database systems.

  • Experience supporting geoprocessing, geocoding, and geostatistical tools.

  • Experience with ESRI UPDM and Linear Referencing Systems.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS integrations.

  • Experience supporting COTS applications and enterprise integrations.

  • Knowledge of pipeline and utility GIS workflows (strong plus).

  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the pipeline industry.

  • Experience with integration platforms (e.g., Boomi).

  • ITIL Foundations certification.

  • Experience with Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, Azure).
