Gas Marketing Analyst
The Marketing Analyst maintains monthly margin and forecast models for the Gas Marketing and Pipeline business units. These models are used to collect, analyze, and communicate segment financials to executive management in the monthly Flash meeting and yearly Planning cycle. The Business Analyst provides insight into earnings related to Targa Gas Marketing and will assist in the validation of entries in Targa’s transactional/accounting system (Allegro) for accuracy and consistency.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Flash process
- In coordination with manager, analyze and report gross margin for Gas Marketing and Pipeline business units
- Research and analyze prior month adjustments for accuracy and provide ETA explanations
- In coordination with manager, analyze and report gross margin for Gas Marketing and Pipeline business units
- Work with Commercial team to model complex trades in Allegro and resolve trade entry errors
- Validate on position/exposure result in ETRM
- Verify ETRM valuation via MTM and P&L reports
- Validate on position/exposure result in ETRM
- Manage transportation expense in Allegro
- Model long term transportation contracts in Allegro
- Manage rate matrices in Allegro using EBB data and negotiated rates from Commercial
- Transportation invoice research, analysis and discrepancy resolution
- Model long term transportation contracts in Allegro
- Resolve reference data issues with Commercial Services
- Create monthly net to plant prices
- Review and approve with Commercial
- Communicate and problem solve with Plant Accountants and Analysts
- Execute SOX control related to net to plant prices
- Review and approve with Commercial
- Counterparty Invoice Resolution
- Research and timely resolution of price and volume differences using appropriate pipeline and confirmation support
- Coordinate monthly settlement disputes with accounting, scheduling and commercial teams
- Timely follow-up of prior month discrepancies
- Research and timely resolution of price and volume differences using appropriate pipeline and confirmation support
- Analyze, model, and report daily market risk for all NGL Trading activities: mark-to-market, exposure, position, and hedging.
- Perform additional analytical work as needed, inclusive of creation of presentations and reports based on findings and recommendations.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, Economics or related field
- Five to Seven years Gas Accounting experience
- OFC or other general ledger software experience
- Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Strong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of staff and management
- Motivated, self-directed and detail-oriented, while also maintaining a results-driven approach to work; Demonstrated accountability skills including the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to recognize and research irregularities and inconsistencies
- Deadline oriented
- Excellent organizational skills with close attention to detail, including organization of work papers
- Effective in a dynamic environment, adapting to and managing change in a positive and proactive manner
- Capable of establishing effective working relationships that promote teamwork and collaboration
- Ability to remain positive, professional, determined, calm and focused when faced with challenging situations
- General understanding of the midstream natural gas industry is preferred, but not required.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Allegro experience strongly preferred
- Skills appropriate for economic model development, analysis, and interpretation.
- Energy industry certifications
