DCS Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will have responsibility for supporting the DCS Team at Targa’s Mont Belvieu Complex. The individual is imperative to ensuring the safe installation, maintenance, and proper function for the DCS and PLC systems. This role is essential to the operation and reliability of Targa’s entire value chain.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support process DCS and PLC systems which includes controls, metering, alarms, automation, and communications
- Troubleshooting, installation, modification, and maintenance of DCSs, PLCs and other network devices
- Maintain plant process control and safety systems
- Strict adherence to company standards for automation systems
- Responsible for performing corrective and preventative maintenance on automation systems, advanced hardware, logic networks, and other related equipment associated typically in the processing, fractionation, storage, and transportation of natural gas liquids in accordance with manufacture’s specifications and established company procedures
- Provide leadership and expertise concerning operations/maintenance of fractionator
- Monitor and recognize dangerous and/or emergency conditions within the process and perform procedures necessary to remove the condition to protect personnel, community, environment, and equipment
- Work with coworkers in the response to emergency situations requiring coordination (Incident Command System), equipment or plant shutdown, and/or evacuation
- Recognize malfunctions in individual equipment and perform maintenance as necessary to correct problems
- Ensure that Targa is in compliance with Federal, State and all regulatory agencies by working with our Environmental Specialist
- Operate and perform activities in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures (Federal, State, and local policies and procedures)
- Ability to follow and adhere to all applicable safety regulations including, but not limited to, Targa’s processes and procedures, Site Specific Rules, State and Federal regulations
- Auditory attention and hearing sensitivity is required, as candidates must possess the ability to distinguish various sounds that serve as key maintenance and safety indicator
- Must employ the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the company's Environmental, Health, and Safety policies
- Performs other work-related duties as needed

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work program and troubleshoot DCSs (Distributive Control Systems)
- Ability to program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley and GE PLCs
- High School Diploma
- Valid driver license required
- Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis
- Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all teams, personnel, and vendors
- Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
- Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment
- Regular and reliable attendance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two-year associates degree in instrumentation, process controls, or equivalent training
- Five years’ experience in petrochemical industry
- Working knowledge of P&IDs, electric schematics, technical manuals, and data
- Plant maintenance/manufacturing experience, specifically NGL fractionation facilities
- Experience with Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Show proficiency in the use of all Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience working with peers in collaborative efforts
- Familiarity with personal computers, and proprietary software
- In depth knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Able to troubleshoot equipment failures
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Full exposure to extreme weather changes and humidity/moisture relative to atmospheric condition variations. Includes exposure to extreme summer and winter temperatures, as well as rain, sleet, and snow
- Work generally performed in an industrial environment (indoor or outdoor) with various hazards and noise exposure
- The job also requires availability for rotating unscheduled call-outs and extended workdays and/or workweeks
- Overtime, Weekend and/or Holiday hours may be required as directed by business need
- Able to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
