Sr. Firewall Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for designing, implementing, and managing network security solutions using Palo Alto technologies to enhance security posture for operational technology (OT) systems within the oil and gas sector.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute security strategies to safeguard OT networks and critical infrastructure.
- Implement and configure Palo Alto firewalls, VPNs, and security policies tailored for operational technology environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security measures into OT systems and processes.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging threats, and best practices in cybersecurity for the oil and gas industry.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on security protocols and best practices.
- Document security policies, procedures, and incident response activities for continuous improvement.
- Perform root cause analysis on resolved problems. Develop appropriate monitoring and proactive measures to prevent future occurrences.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify areas of improvement and implement security policy enhancements.
- Work closely with management to prioritize business goals and information needs.
- Lead job assignments without direct supervision.
- Provide real-time network system support to internal customers.
- Follow Change Control submission and approval processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or combination of education and job-related experience.
- A minimum of 6+ years of proven experience supporting Palo Alto firewalls.
- Proven experience in network security engineering, specifically with Palo Alto Networks products.
- Familiarity with operational technology systems and protocols used in the oil and gas industry (e.g., SCADA, PLCs).
- Familiarity with industry best practices for securing operational technology systems. (e.g., NIST800-82SP2, Purdue Model OT/ICS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant certifications ( e.g. Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), CISSP, or equivalent) are highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Expertise in firewall configuration, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and threat intelligence.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
