Rotating Equipment Specialist - Compression

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides leadership and technical support to compression operations personnel on integral and separable compressor issues that are varied and complex. Expert in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting of compressors, engines, turbines, motors, and auxiliary equipment. Ensure the cost effective and efficient performance of all engines, compressors, and associated equipment at compressor stations, pipelines, and process plants. Plans and prioritizes work with little to no supervision. Provides guidance and training to less experienced employees within functional area. Resolves complex problems within area of responsibility.
Understands and applies advanced principles in area of specialization. Recommends changes in procedures and participates in the update process. Anticipates patterns and links; looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications. Reviews progress and evaluates results. Acts in a liaison capacity with other functions, landowners, contractors, government agencies and customers. May occasionally coordinate the work of technicians and third-party contractors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and advise operations personnel in identifying and implementing new methods to increase operating efficiencies of compression equipment.
- Monitor oil consumption to ensure cost effective operations of compression assets. This includes evaluating lube system design and determining over lube issues, correcting problems and testing components for proper oil film requirements.
- Support and provide feedback to engineers on the refinement of operational procedures and/or equipment specifications. Participates in the revision and development of new and existing procedures and specifications.
- Provide detailed reports on compression performance and condition. Provides recommendations to management, field operations, and engineers regarding required, advanced maintenance processes, overhauls, or replacement of equipment. Recommendations may result in equipment shutdown or redirect.
- Provide recommendations to improve preventative and predictive maintenance plans for assigned assets.
- Coordinate and lead special project work including the installation and commissioning of compressor packages, which may require equipment modifications and improvements. May coordinate the work of third-party contractors for special project work as assigned.
- Ensure the effective and timely communication of equipment condition and status of special projects cost/schedule to supervisor, technicians, engineers, and other related parties.
- Review and analyze compression asset records required by state, federal and local agencies as assigned. Identify potential missing information or compliance issues and elevate for resolution.
- Facilitate implementation and consistent application of new and/or existing program or process initiatives.
- Develop and present compression training to field operations on multiple topics and equipment types.
- Develop Compression Technical Advisories and communicates technical information to compression operations.
- Perform compression failure investigations and communicates findings to operations personnel.
- Monitor oil analysis in assigned compression asset area and provides corrective recommendations to compression operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, computer technology or other technical discipline. Direct related experience will be considered in lieu of an associate’s degree.
- Six (6) years’ experience in the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of gas compressors and engines.
- Advanced knowledge in base deflection and alignment of complex compression mounting systems.
- Advanced knowledge of PLC and other electronic control systems, including ability to troubleshoot and correct problems.
- Advanced knowledge of operational procedures including with the ability to perform multiple complex tasks, including but not limited to task observations, startup/commissioning of a station or facility, or equipment calibrations.
- Ability to work and participate in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and twenty pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel crouch, balance, climb crawl, reach, stand, walk pull, lift, use fingers and grasp daily.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, view a computer terminal, demonstrate manual dexterity for operating a computer and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly - in an oral or written manner.
- Ability to work with high exposure to excessive noise, dust, dirt, grease, temperature extremes and safety hazards.
- Ability to work in an office environment and/or field site environment.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted.
- Ability to travel as required to perform job responsibilities.

- Ability to travel to work or field locations, and to attend meetings, training, and conferences/seminars, including overnight stays to complete job responsibilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with high daily pressure.
