Project Engineer
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Embody integrity, accountability, initiative, and respect in correspondence and work.
- Possess fundamental knowledge of midstream gas gathering and processing operations, including pipeline liquids handling, compression, glycol and desiccant dehydration, treating, hydrocarbon recovery, acid gas injection, nitrogen removal, and condensate stabilization
- Continuously optimize processing assets to enhance safety, mechanical reliability, operational flexibility, and capacity.
- Provide operational technical support (including troubleshooting, debottlenecking and optimization, maintenance projects, Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance, PHA participation and action item resolution, DOT compliance, etc.)
- Develop station process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax software
- Interpret and design Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Plot Plans, Piping Plans, and Piping Isometrics
- Design process controls and specify instrumentation; interpret and produce controls narratives and cause & effects
- Size and specify mechanical equipment, including separators, filters, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, pumps, compressors, treaters, and dehydrators
- Size and specify relief devices, control valves, and regulators.
- Select piping materials, diameters, and thicknesses to meet design requirements.
- Complete projects through the entire project lifecycle, including: provide feasibility studies and Front End Loading cost estimates to commercial; generate AFE’s; perform detailed engineering and design; scope, bid, and manage construction and commissioning contractors; as-built drawings; and participate in pre-startup safety reviews
- Develop scope of work/for-bid packages for engineering, construction, and commissioning activities. Track/forecast costs and milestone schedules and regularly communicate progress to project stakeholders.
- Possess knowledge of codes, standards, regulations and best practices applicable to the midstream industry (including API, ASME B31.3/4/8 and VIII, DOT 192/5, NFPA, etc.)
- Ensure all Targa design and construction standards are satisfied
- Ensure Local, State, Federal and Targa Safety & Environmental regulations and policies are satisfied
- Communicate effectively with internal and external team members (including safety, environmental, operations, construction, commercial, land/ROW, 3rd party contractors, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from 4-year accredited university
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in natural gas gathering, compression, processing, fractionation, construction, and/or operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside the company.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to travel at least 25% of the time
- Regular and reliable attendance
- 5+ years of experience in natural gas gathering, compression, processing, fractionation, construction and/or operations.
- Experience with acid gas handling and process equipment.
- Process simulation and pipeline modeling experience with HYSYS, PROMAX, WinSim, WinFlow, Synergee, FlareNet, or similar applications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project
- 4+ year of experience in project engineering and/or project management
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
- Ability to work in changing climate conditions and a plant environment
- Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
- Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, hard hat, FRC)
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
