GIS Specialist
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The GIS Specialist supports Targa’s engineering, operations, and project teams by maintaining, updating, and analyzing geospatial data related to pipeline and facility assets. This role is responsible for producing high-quality maps, ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support regulatory compliance, project planning, and operational efficiency.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create, update, and maintain pipeline and facility geospatial data using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing and Esri’s Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM).
Design and develop dashboards within ArcGIS Online and Portal.
Publishing, editing geospatial content for ArcGIS Online and Enterprise Portal environments.
Develop and maintain web maps and web applications to support operational and analytical needs.
Build and configure smart forms in Field Maps to support accurate data collection and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to resolve data discrepancies, improve data quality, and deliver GIS‑based solutions.
Create and maintain process documentation and provide training to internal users on GIS applications and best practices.
Provide GIS and GPS support for engineering, project management, operations and maintenance teams, including troubleshooting software, hardware, and data issues
Understand and communicate the use and importance of the GIS survey data collection specifications internal and 3rd party stakeholders.
Work with the compliance teams to ensure the company remains in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Develop and implement Python and Arcade scripts to automate data processing, validation, and reporting tasks.
Assist with GIS data migration, system upgrades, and implementation of new GIS tools and technologies.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify GIS needs and develop effective solutions.
Evaluate software and tools to ensure they are adequate to perform GIS functions and coordinate technical support needs.
Manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
5+ year relevant oil and gas experience.
Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, including experience with ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing, the Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM), and Google Earth Pro.
Strong understanding of pipeline alignment sheets and survey data workflows.
Knowledge of plant, compressor station, and pipeline appurtenances, as well as the materials, components, and associated data used in pipeline systems.
Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and personnel in both corporate and field environments.
Strong project coordination and planning skills and the ability to prioritize daily work to meet schedules and objectives.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and with external partners.
Self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing technologies.
Regular and Reliable Attendance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional experience with the ArcGIS Suite.
Proficiency in programming and scripting languages used with the ESRI GIS platform such as Python, Arcade and SQL
Familiarity with integrating GIS data with other enterprise systems and databases.
