Engineer III - Underground Storage
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Targa is currently seeking a Well Storage/Drilling Engineer to support the engineering design, drilling and required maintenance of our hydrocarbon storage well, acid gas injection well and brine disposal well assets This position will office at the Mont Belvieu, TX facility, however travel to site is sometimes required to support ongoing activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide engineering technical support for Targa’s underground storage and disposal facilities including field engineering, engineering design, well modeling optimization, troubleshooting, project management and related regulatory reporting requirements. Candidate needs to work within a team environment while providing business and operations support for terminal storage and disposal facilities. Some specific responsibilities include:
Include, providing budget estimates for budget forecasting and the AFE’s required for storage well workovers, acid gas injection well drilling and completion, disposal well workovers, cleanouts, mechanical integrity testing and related vendor services. Track cost and maintain project management and control work processes to stay under budget.
Providing project workover procedures with scheduled timing estimates for the items listed above, securing required regulatory permits, and providing required reports. As well as overseeing these projects through completion and return to service.
Assist with overseeing and learning all aspects of drilling operations, completion design and engineering analysis for acid gas injection wells, salt cavern storage wells, and saltwater disposal wells.
Provide operational support, monitoring, and training for acid gas injection wells.
Manage acid gas injection well regulatory compliance.
Help develop leaching plans for well modeling and proper terminal and storage related operations, where needed.
Utilizing and maintaining the Targa Storage Standards, based on our historical standards, including the API 1114 recommended practices for the design of solution-mined underground storage facilities, and API 1115, the recommended practice on the operation of solution-mined underground storage facilities.
Provide technical support for Targa’s terminal storage and disposal well operations and maintenance personnel, as well as commercial stakeholders.
Provide technical support for returning wells to product service, by reviewing mechanical integrity test reports, interpreting sonar caliper surveys, and wireline results for any concerns.
Supervise the safe operations of workover processes and update well volumes, product and brine pressure switch settings and related Targa and regulatory documentation, after workover completion.
Develop product flow simulations and assist with reviewing operating issues, including wellbore hydraulics, geological changes, wellhead replacements, and pressure discrepancy conditions including acid gas injection plume modeling.
Provide work order information including vendor quotes with project details, for purchase orders in Maximo.
Assure all Targa design and construction standards are followed, as well as stored in the proper online Engineering and Construction team filing systems.
Assure State and Federal regulations, and Targa policies, as well as Safety and Environmental rules pertaining to Targa are adhered to within the areas of responsibility.
Must be self-motivated and be able to prioritize and successfully accomplish multiple tasks in a timely manner.
Must be able to work under attorney/client privilege and respect and uphold Targa’s confidentiality, as well as Targa’s Code of Conduct.
Other responsibilities & tasks to support the safe, reliable & compliant operation of Targa’s underground storage & well assets as needed.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering from a four-year accredited University.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company, as well as organizations outside the company.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Provide effective technical reports, repair plans, letters, and memos that effectively communicate complex engineering concepts to co-workers, regulators, management, and shareholders.
Regular and reliable attendance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with the design, drilling and required maintenance of Hydrocarbon storage and disposal wells, acid gas injection wells, including workovers, MIT’s and the plug and abandonment process.
PHYCAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to lift, push, and pull 75 pounds.
Ability to work in changing climate conditions and a plant environment.
Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (e.g. eye protection, hand protection, footwear, and Fire-Retardant Clothing).
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
