POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary objective is to assist the Corrosion Supervisor and Corrosion Department in collection and analysis of data which is used to implement the company’s corrosion control program protecting Targa Resources assets, investments, work force and the general public. This position will be working on our east Delaware assets. Work hours are 7-4 Monday-Friday. 

JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Possess knowledge of natural gas pipeline operations and familiarity with pipeline facilities.
  • Support the corrosion supervisor, corrosion technicians and pipeline supervisors in the implementation of the internal and external corrosion control programs.
  • Inspect and maintain corrosion control facilities including but not limited to rectifiers, deep wells, and galvanic anodes, cathodic protection bonds, cathodic protection test stations, electrical isolation kits, and internal corrosion coupons.
  • Maintain paperwork and accurately document work including writing reports, completing Targa forms, and maintaining data in several electronic formats.
  • Ability to climb in and out of ditches to access pipelines while sometimes carrying heavy tools and supplies.
  • Perform physical labor to repair pipe coating, repair cathodic protection rectifiers, perform exothermic welding activities, install cathodic protection test stations and bonds, etc. in sometimes extreme weather conditions and in ditches.
  • Participate in audits by federal and state entities and must be able to defend your work and records during these audits.
  • Meticulously comply with federally mandated schedules and Targa's corrosion control procedures.
  • Assist Corrosion Department personnel with survey work including cathodic protection surveys, close interval surveys, electrical isolation surveys, soil resistivity surveys, current requirement surveys, bell hole examination of buried pipe and bi-monthly rectifier and bond inspections.
  • Support the operation, minor repair and maintenance of compressors, associated pipeline equipment and pipeline operations when necessary and when called upon.
  • Have a working knowledge of ditch, electrical, plant and pipeline safety.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Work with other Targa departments and foreign pipeline corrosion techs to troubleshoot and remediate issues such as interference and cathodic protection isolation shorts.
  • Precise and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Be able to work safely and effectively with hand and power tools. 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify, remediate and explain issues involving cathodic protection systems.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

MINNIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in pipeline operations, midstream operations, cathodic protection, internal corrosion. 
  • Ability to attend and pass NACE courses and implement this training into their work.
  • Experience in pipeline operations preferred. 
  • Must be a “Team Player”
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform with minimal supervision.
  • Imperative that candidates be willing to learn and self –study.
  • A strong work ethic
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must meet insurance company motor vehicle record requirements
  • Regular and reliable attendance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer skills in Access, Excel and Word. 
  • Experience with American Innovations Pipeline Compliance System software, Bullhorn Rectifier Remote Monitoring software and Allegro field data terminal and software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  •  Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.
