Analyzer Technican
POSITION SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will be responsible for working on all types of field analyzers, water treatment systems, and lab analysis equipment as well as working alongside I&E Technicians. This position is located at the Targa’s Galena Park Marine Terminal.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Installation, maintenance, and calibration of on-stream gas chromatographs.
· Installation, maintenance, and calibration of various utility analyzers including VOC, HRVOC, BTU, conductivity, PH, moisture, sulfur, O2, and MeOH.
· Installation, maintenance and calibration of CEMS analyzers.
· Ensure appropriate calibration gases are in ready supply to analyzer systems.
· Maintain IA air compressors supplying RTU buildings (with support from Maintenance techs and third-party contractors).
· Sample all water outfall locations to verify within permit limits and assist Environmental submit monthly NetDMRs.
· Check all chemical pumps and storage tanks supporting cooling water systems, working closely with chemical vendors for quality assurance and fine-tuning.
· Maintain and calibrate MSA CGI monitors and other related safety equipment for the facility.
· Recognize malfunctions in individual equipment and perform maintenance as necessary to correct problems.
· Interface with SCADA, DCS, and analyzer host systems
· Interpersonal skills required to interface with customers and team members
· Monitor process variables and conditions to ascertain the current state of the operated process
· Monitor and recognize dangerous and/or emergency conditions within the process and perform procedures necessary to remove the condition or shutdown the process to protect personnel, community, environment and equipment
· Work with co-workers in response to emergency situations requiring coordinating equipment shutdown, and/or evacuation
· Operate and perform activities in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures
· Write repair work request for routine and major maintenance that cannot be handled as part of normal operations using a work order system (Maximo)
· Utilize proper Lockout/Tag out operating and safety procedures
· Must be proficient in the use of PCs and PC software
· Must be a self-starter and be able to prioritize work based on business needs
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have a valid driver's license
· Obtain and maintain a valid TWIC card
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors; able to work in a self-directed work team
· Must become proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel,
· Must work with a minimum of supervision and be able to manage their time when given multiple tasks
· Willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objectives
· Regular and reliable attendance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of 1-5 years’ work experience in an NGL facility
· Two years working with Chemical/Petroleum analysis and lab equipment
· Experience with analyzer instrument installations and calibrations
· Two-year associates degree in instrumentation, measurement, analyzers or equivalent training
· Be a self-starter, and ability to work with peers in collaborative efforts
· Be able to work with internal and external customers to verify quality and accuracy of analyses.
· Ability to learn areas of Terminal Operations
· Experience with a computer-based management system (SAP, Maximo)
· Experience with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures
· Experience in work permit processes and procedures
· Be able to diagnose, repair, and calibrate analyzers
· Experience working in collaborative efforts, be a highly motivated self-starter
· Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and able to respond to call outs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
· Ability to work in changing climate conditions and a plant environment
· Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
· Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (e.g. eye protection, footwear, FRC)
· The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms
